Inquest opens after death of ‘kind, popular and highly-valued’ Chesterfield College worker

Police were called to the Infirmary Road site at about 6pm on Tuesday after a member of college staff found 45-year-old Paul Lowry.

During a hearing in Chesterfield coroners’ court this afternoon, coroner James Newman said widower Mr Lowry, of Bellhouse Lane, Staveley, was identified by his best friend.

Mr Lowry was a health and safety officer at Chesterfield College.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.

Mr Newman said his office was still awaiting post-mortem results into Mr Lowry’s death.

Mr Lowry’s inquest was adjourned to a later date.

Stuart Cutforth, principal at Chesterfield College, said: “Everybody at the college is deeply saddened by this loss.

“A dedicated member of our health and safety team for seven years, Paul was a kind, popular and highly-valued person who will be sorely missed.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this traumatic time.”
