Inquest opened into death of New Mills motorcyclist killed in alleged Taddington hit and run

An inquest into the death of a New Mills motorcyclist killed in a suspected hit and run incident on the A6 near Taddington was opened and adjourned at Chesterfield Coroners’ Court today.

Warren Hayward, 24, of Hyde Bank Road, was travelling home from work in Bakewell on Friday, July 24 at around 11.30pm when he was in collision with another vehicle.

Police were called to the incident by a passing motorist at 12.40am but Mr Hayward was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was formally identified by his parents at Chesterfield Royal Hospital on Tuesday, July 28.

At the inquest opening, DC Bernard Glynn, of Derbyshire police, appealed for witnesses to the incident, particularly the movements of two vehicles.

The first, a blue Toyota Avensis, was recovered on Monday from a garage off Abbeydale Road in Sheffield.

The second, a white Audi Q7, was found abandoned by police.

It is believed both vehicles had been travelling from Stoke to Sheffield on the night in question.

In total, eight people have now been arrested in connection with the incident.

Assistant coroner James Newman reiterated the police’s appeal for information before adjourning the inquest until November 7.
