A coroner has been told how a Staveley man was killed and three others are still in a serious condition following a head-on car crash in Staveley.

Andrew Paul McKenna, 59, of Belmont Drive, Staveley, died at the scene of the accident and was pronounced deceased at 11.01pm on 20th June.

Derbyshire Coroner James Newman was told how Mr McKenna’s car had collided head-on with a Nissan Duke on Erin Road at about 10.10pm.

“Two passengers were also injured and are currently at Sheffield Northern General Hospital,” said Mr Newman.

“They had travelled a short distance from their place of work together.”

PC Matthew Lacey, of Debyshire Police, confirmed that Erin Road was a single carriageway.

He also confirmed for Mr Newman that because all the survivors from the crash - including the driver of the Nissan Duke - were hospitalised with serious injuries an appeal for witnesses to the accident would be needed.

Mr Newman said Mr McKenna had undergone a post-mortem but its results were still outstanding and the police investigation was still at an early stage.

A review date of 6th October was set, pending the post-mortem results.
