Senior Sister Joan Webley at Ripley Minor Injury Unit said: “Our silver award marks the way we look after young people with dignity and respect. We invited young inspectors in and developed an action plan to make a better environment for young people. It’s been a real team effort.”

Assessor Michelle Grant, of North Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group, spent time in the unit and waiting room and spoke to young patients and staff.

She said: “Many congratulations to the whole team for bringing this project together and we thank them for the everyday dignified care they provide.”

The unit sought the opinions of youngsters and urged young inspectors to provide feedback to shape services to fit specific needs.

Each member of the team increased their knowledge and skills in the care of children and young people through completing competency folders.

A dedicated room was set up with a resource file and health promotion display especially for young people.

Sister Webley added: “We will continue to seek young peoples’ views and feedback.”
