Initiative launched to defend Land Rovers

Land Rover owners will soon have the chance to get their vehicles security-marked for free in a bid to help defend against thieves.

The use of products such as Smart Water and Selecta DNA can also act as a deterrent to would-be car thieves, who know how effective the kits are in tracing stolen vehicles.

PCSO Jonathan Taylor said: “When a Land Rover Defender is targeted, it can be extremely difficult to retrieve it if it is stripped into parts and then moved on.

“However, having several key sections of your vehicle marked with these hi-tech kits can make it so much easier to get those parts back to the original owner.

“They also act as an excellent deterrent and can help to reduce the risk of your Land Rover falling into the hands of criminals.”

Owners must take their vehicle’s V5 form to the free events to prove their ownership of the vehicle.

They must also live in the Derbyshire Dales or High Peak and need to bring proof of their home address.
