Over the last few weeks, the Cotmanhay and Shipley View Safer Neighbourhood Team has been dealing with a number of complaints of anti-social behaviour (ASB) from young people.

The reports include vehicles being damaged, apples being thrown at properties, young people running into people's gardens and household bins being emptied out on to the streets.

PC Annie Gregory, who is one of the officers dealing with the complaints, said: "We have taken these complaints very seriously as it has clearly been affecting the quality of life for some on the estate.

"We have worked closely with the local community and the Erewash Borough Council ASB team.

"Three young people aged between 15 and 17 have now been interviewed, along with their parents, and have admitted their part in the behaviour and damage.

"A team of youth offender workers will now decide on appropriate out of court actions for them.

"This will be based on rehabilitation and to encourage them to think about the consequences of their actions.

"In the meantime I would strongly urge people not to get involved in speculation on social media as to who has, or is, involved in such behaviour.

"This does nothing to help the situation, can lead to more harm being caused to people who are not involved and it's against the law to identify suspects or offenders who are aged 17 and below.

"If people think they have information about the incidents they should contact the team on 101. If they do not want to speak to the police then they can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
