The Christmas market will include food, craft stalls and children’s rides.

The lights switch-on will take place at 6.30pm.

Meanwhile, Derby's Christmas ice rink has now opened.

Each year more than 20,000 people are drawn to the attraction in Derby's Market Place, which is being funded by Derbyshire's cricket ground sponsor 3aaa and the Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District with a contribution from Derby City Council.

Hundreds of people attended a launch event on Thursday night.
