Hunt for train thief who tried to steal passenger's laptop

Police would like to speak to this man in connection with an attempted theft on a train.

British Transport Police officers would like to speak to the man pictured above in relation to their enquiries into the attempted theft which took place at around 8pm on August 8.

Officers said the victim of the attempted theft was travelling on the 6.26pm service from St Pancras station, London - and travels through Derby, Long Eaton and Chesterfield - when a man boarded the train at Loughborough and sat next to him.

The said: "They struck up a conversation and the victim agreed to let the man charge his phone using his charger plugged into his laptop that he was using."

As the train pulled into Long Eaton station the man grabbed the victim’s laptop and attempted to take it. The victim pulled it back and a struggle ensued. The man let go and left the train empty handed.

PC Adam Ashton aid: “The passenger was kind enough to let the man use his phone charger, he then repaid by him trying to steal his laptop.

“We’ve followed a number of enquiries since the incident in an attempt to trace the man but to no avail. We are now hoping that by issuing his photo to the public someone may recognise him, if you do please contact us.”
