Horse owners warned to be on alert after break-ins

Police officers were alerted to a three-car collision on the Sheffield Parkway this morning

Burglars broke into a farm building and stable in Pilsley Road, Morton, Alfreton, between 6pm on Monday (June 6) and 9am the following morning.

Among the items stolen from the stable were two pairs of stirrup irons, two head collar bridles, eight stable rugs, a variety of tools and an electric fence post and battery.

The incident has prompted police to remind stable users about security steps they can take to protect their belongings.

The crime prevention tips issued by Derbyshire police include:

Install a sturdy padlock on doors and gates;

Consider security marking your equipment;

Have a security light and burglar alarm fitted;

Display signs to alert would-be burglars that your valuables are security marked.

Horse owners are also urged to sign up to Derbyshire Constabulary’s Horse Watch scheme, which aims to protect horses and their owners from being targeted by criminals.
