Holymoorside & Walton Parish Council's excellent service to the community is honoured

Holymoorside & Walton Parish Council beat off opposition from larger authorities to win the BHIB council of the year for Derbyshire excellence runner-up award for 2018.

Derbyshire Association of Local Councils representative, Glen Ingham, noted that the judges were particularly impressed with the council’s aim to ‘Promote Parish Pride’ and local traditions were highlighted, ranging from taking ownership of the well dressing shelter to maintaining the Beating the Bounds custom.

Parish council chairman Martin Thacker said: “The award is recognition of how the council serves the community effectively. All councillors are unpaid volunteers who work for the good of the parish. Positive relationships with local people, groups and organisations lead to enhanced outcomes for all. We are grateful to all who engage with the council and contributed to our parish being recognised in this way,”
