HOLYMOORSIDE: Council presents posthumous award marking commitment of Adrian Marsden-Jones

Residents of Holymoorside and Walton were invited to have their say at the annual parish meeting held at Holymoorside Parish Council. Residents received a report about the work of Holymoorside and Walton Parish Council.

Representatives from the 1st Holymoorside Guides; Holymoorside and Walton Arts’ Festival Society; and Cllr Thacker as district councillor were able to provide details of their activities over the last year.

The presentation of the ‘Pride of Parish Awards’ took place during the meeting. The awards recognise those who have demonstrated unstinting commitment to the parish over a sustained period of time. There were two awards given for 2013: Mr Alistair McLellan and Mr Adrian Marsden-Jones.

However, the award to Mr Adrian Marsden-Jones was particularly poignant since it was given posthumously. Parish council chairman, Cllr Martin Thacker paid tribute to Adrian (who passed away earlier this year) by saying, “He was a man of many positive facets who had contributed to so many local groups in the community, including being a former member of the parish council. It was with sadness that the council had noted the passing of someone who was a good family man, friend and neighbour. This is the only occasion that the council has given a posthumous award.”

Mrs Dorothy Marsden-Jones accepted a commemorative plate and signed the register of award winners on Adrian’s behalf.
