Hollywood star Dominic West backs campaign to save Derbyshire charity Helen's Trust

Bakewell-based Helen’s Trust says it is likely to face closure by June unless it gets more financial support from the public.

The in-demand charity – which has helped more than 1,000 people with a number of different terminal illnesses to remain at home in the last six months of their lives – has now sounded an urgent fundraising plea.

As a patron of Helen’s Trust, Mr West – most famous for his role as Jimmy McNulty in The Wire and currently starring as Vicomte de Valmont in Les Liaisons Dangereuses – is keen to help the charity.

Helen’s Trust will be auctioning two tickets for the final performance of Les Liaisons Dangereuses at the Donmar Warehouse in London followed by a spectacular black tie after-show party at the Freemasons’ Hall on February 13.

Mr West, whose mother was supported by Helen’s Trust before she sadly died at home in 2009, said: “I hope the auction will raise a huge amount for Helen’s Trust, a brilliant small charity which is close to my heart. The work they do is invaluable in the community. The right to a good death at home is a basic human right and I am pleased to be able to help in this way.”

Founded in 2001 in memory of Derbyshire woman Helen Lyon who died of cancer, Helen’s Trust needs to raise £230,000 every year.
