High Peak job losses and gains

A major High Peak employer is appealing for voluntary redundancies at the same time two other firms want to create new jobs.

Brake line manufacturer Ferodo is asking staff to volunteer for redundancy after an extensive modernisation scheme to its Chapel–en–le–Frith site has meant many jobs are now surplus to requirement. The company, which is part of Federal Mogul, is investing around £13million in the site over a two year period in a bid to keep the factory in the High Peak.

Meanwhile, supermarket chain Aldi has revealed its intention to open a store on land at Forester’s Way, Chapel, creating up to 25 full and part time jobs.

In the same week another Chapel–based firm, Street Crane, has been granted planning permission by High Peak Borough Council to build an industrial unit off Sheffield Road.

The building, measuring 72.8 metres by 27 metres, will allow the crane specialist to expand its business, creating a further 17 jobs.
