Traffic chaos erupted on Whittington Moor after a bridge proved too low for a tractor carrying hay.

The vehicle got stuck under the bridge, scattering hay everywhere and causing huge tailbacks towards Eckington.

Stagecoach tweeted that several of its services were experiencing delays due to the incident.

Bus passenger Alan Craw said: “The tractor came steaming down Whittington Hill as I waited for the bus, ignored the over-height vehicle warning, and as it slowly brushed under the bridge, the back ten bales just fell onto the road in slow motion.”

The incident has now been cleared.
