The pretty village of Heath was busy with visitors this weekend at the start of its annual well dressing and flower festival.
A dramatic depiction of “The Ascension” is on show at the main well and in the vicarage garden, the colourful children’s well depicts characters from the Tales of Beatrix Potter. The beautiful flower arrangements in All Saints church are themed around “Decades of the Queen’s Reign”.
Humorous scarecrows throughout the village brought a smile to visitors’ faces, whilst a selection of homemade cakes and refreshments awaited them after a stroll around the village.
Claire Winfield, CEO of Sight Support Derbyshire, spoke at the blessing of the wells and described the work of the charity, which will be the beneficiary of monies raised during the well dressing week this year.
A variety of jams and chutneys, as well as craft items, plants and books are on sale in the village hall, where paintings by the local art group are on display.
A garden party in the vicarage and “Songs of Praise” also took place over the weekend. The event will continue throughout the week and will finish on Saturday, July 27.
