A fitness buff has organised a “Great Glossop Calorie Burn-up” on Saturday to raise money for his community exercise project.
Mick Owen, 55, is appealing for volunteers to get sponsored to burn off 1,500 calories each to raise money for WellFit CIC, a social enterprise, which runs weekly sessions of gentle exercise for the inactive in Glossopdale.
His target is to collectively burn 150,000 calories and raise £1,500, which Barclay’s have promised to match.
Mick wants people to participate by running, walking, playing sport, or even doing housework, but there will also be community events such as football, netball, rugby and bowling tournaments to take part in.
He said: “Inactivity is a big risk factor to people’s general health. At the end of the day the town will be 150,000 calories down and WellFit Gamesley will be £1,500 up, with everyone feeling the benefit.”
