Health and fitness fair in Wirksworth

A group of patients from Wirksworth are organising a fitness fair, working on the theme of prevention not cure.

The free event aims to help people – of all ages and states of fitness – learn how better to take care of themselves and to find out what help is available, without it being “too serious”.

Annie Nelson, who chairs the patients organising group, said: “We’ve managed to bring together over 30 groups. Some will give information on subjects like diabetes, alcohol, dementia, others will demonstrate how we can all become a bit healthier and fitter.”

Activities on the day include: a junior gymnastics extravaganza; demonstrations of aqua-zumba; ju jitsu; yoga; kettlebell; pilates; and boxercise.

Annie said: “You can ride the static cycle as fast and as far as you like. You can even make your own healthy smoothies – but you will need to pedal hard to produce the goods.”

The Fitness Fair is taking place on Saturday, July 13 from 10am until 1pm in the town centre near the Memorial Hall.

The event is organised by the Patient Participation Group of the Hannage Brook Medical Centre. For more information contact Annie Nelson on 01629 822817.
