Heage windmill declared open at Easter ceremony

Heage windmill was reopened for the season last weekend after a six-month closure. The official opening was performed by one of the most important figures in the restoration of the windmill back in 2002 – John Boucher.

He was one of the team responsible from converting the tired looking static structure into a major tourist attraction in the district. Bringing the mill back to life included a new access road, car parking and the provision of other services to the site.

John arrived at the ceremony, on Saturday, April 4, on a vintage tractor.

He said he was immensely proud and delighted to be invited to declare the mill open.
