Heage driver who took partner's vehicle after a row is fined

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Tuesday, January 19, how James Anthony Taylor, 23, of Park Road, Heage, had been on a night out and had had an argument with his partner and took his wife’s Honda CR-V to get away.

Prosecuting solicitor Neil Hoodless said: “The defendant went out on Christmas Eve with work colleagues but he argued with his partner.

“He got home and had lost his keys so he had to climb through an open house window and decided to get away from the area and took his partner’s car.

“He had no permission to take the car and had no insurance for this vehicle.”

Taylor pleaded guilty to taking the Honda CR-V without the owner’s consent and to driving without insurance after the incident in the early hours of Christmas Day, last year.

Defence solicitor Paul McLeod said: “It’s an unfortunate set of circumstances. He went out on Christmas Eve and an argument took place and he left in his partner’s vehicle.

“It was a silly thing to do because he couldn’t find the keys to his own Land Rover but he just wanted to get away to think.

“Since the incident, he has been missing his partner and children and there is nothing to suggest they will not all continue to be together as a family.”

Magistrates fined Taylor £350 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £35 victim surcharge.

His driver’s licence was also endorsed with six penalty points.
