A BRAVE dad has taken part in a mammoth bike ride to raise pots of cash for charity after he battled cancer.
Stephen Travers, of Heathfield Close, Dronfield, and his sons, Joe and Sam, rode from Land’s End to John O’Groats – raising about £1,750 for various charities including Cancer Research UK.
The close-knit trio were going to take on the mission last year, but it was put on hold after 52-year-old Stephen was diagnosed with non-hodgkin’s lymphoma.
He underwent a year of gruelling treatment but now he is fighting fit and completed the bike ride in 22 days.
Stephen, who works for BT, said: “Despite some mechanical problems and some pretty bad weather, it was an experience we’ll never forget.
“We met some fantastic people along the way – like the farmer who let us camp in his field – and we’ve raised a lot of money for some excellent charities.”
