Residents have until tomorrow (Friday) to comment on the £5 million draft plans for a 60-bed hotel and restaurant on the site of the Robin Hood Inn, which were unveiled at the Octagon, at the Pavilion Gardens.

Acquisition manager Nick Johnston said: “More than 100 people visited the exhibition throughout the day and the overwhelming majority of people we spoke to backed the plans. We have spent a long time searching for an appropriate site in Buxton. We now have it and as long-term investors we want our proposed Buxton hotel to be absolutely right. We will now review all of the comments we received and will refine our designs over the summer to make our proposals even stronger. I am confident we can deliver the first-class hotel people want to see on the site.”

Stephen and Patricia Shaw, of White Knowle Road, said after the event: “We live close to the Robin Hood pub and walk or drive past almost every day. It’s on a key road into Buxton and gives the impression of a town that is run down and neglected, not what residents and business people want at the town’s southern gateway. The site is in desperate need of fresh investment. We liked what we saw at the exhibition. Furthermore, it will bring new visitors and jobs to the area, exactly what Buxton needs. It gets our full support.”
