Handbag robber punched woman in ribs

A WOMAN was punched in the ribs by a man who tried to steal her handbag.

Police in Chesterfield are appealing for witnesses to the attempted robbery in the Market Place at around 4.45pm on Tuesday, November 8.

A woman was walking along Low Pavement towards West Bars when she was approached from behind by a man who tried to grab her handbag.

The 21-year-old did not let go and the man then punched her to the ribs.

Another man who was walking through the market at the time shouted and the attacker ran away in the direction of NatWest bank.

The attacker is described as white, around 5ft 7in tall, of stocky build, wearing a dark hooded top and tracksuit bottoms.

Police would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the incident take place.
