Hall Leys is crowning glory of Matlock

Council workers have been praised for their excellent work in maintaining Matlock’s park.

Derbyshire Dales District Council’s Hall Leys Park has won special recognition from the Matlock in Bloom organisation.

In July this year the park received its sixth consecutive prestigious Green Flag Award from environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.

Now Matlock in Bloom has nominated the district council’s park workers with their own special ‘Award of Excellence’.

Vice-chairman of Matlock in Bloom Cllr Sue Burfoot said: “Members of our organisation are unanimous in the view that this award to the talented team of workers at Hall Leys Park is richly deserved.

“Our Award of Excellence certificate is in recognition of their efforts to enhance this public open space in the centre of the town, which is undoubtedly the jewel in Matlock’s crown.”

The presentation, accepted on behalf of the parks team by Damian Sax and Robert Falconer, is part of a rolling programme of awards by Matlock in Bloom, recognising floral excellence in the town.

Chairman of the district council’s Environment Committee Cllr Steve Bull said: “It’s always nice for our park teams to receive recognition for the work they do, not just in Hall Leys Park, but in more than 30 parks and gardens the district council is proud to maintain throughout the Derbyshire Dales.”

“Economic prosperity is a welcome spin–off of this work, which helps to attract 6.9 million visitors a year who spend £296 million in the Dales.”
