Group collects 25 bags of rubbish from Peak hills

On Sunday, June 16, 47 people collected 25 bags of garbage and other trash from the hills around Hope Valley.

It was the very first of eight events of the Envirotrek Clean Up Series this summer, organised by Respect the Mountains in cooperation with KEEN Footwear.

In the morning participants gathered in Castleton and three different groups, accompanied by conservation volunteers, went out in search of rubbish.

All sort of things were found: tent poles; a fork stuck in a tree; old pottery; empty bottles; and a lot of portable barbeques.

After the morning Clean Up, a delicious lunch made by volunteers which all in attendance enjoyed.

In the afternoon participants tried climbing, caving, a ridge walk or a high ropes course, together with local guides and Peak Mountaineering.

While hanging onto the rocks they could oversee the heather fields and hills of Peak District. Others went walking up the beautiful hills, learning the ropes and the last party was taken to explore the caves.
