The group were also handed free SmartWater security marking kits to further protect their valuables from thieves ahead of the summer months.

SmartWater is a forensic based security marking fluid that can be used on property from bikes, electrical items and jewellery to help deter criminals.

Marking items with security kits such as SmartWater can improve the chances of police returning any items if they are stolen and recovered.

Police Community Support Officer, Anthony Boswell, said: “Residents are our eyes and ears in the community, so it was a great opportunity to meet up with the Grindleford Neighbourhood Watch group.

“With the weather improving, people may be thinking of digging out their tools to work on their gardens; however this can be a key time for thieves.

“As part of the visit, I spoke to the group about marking valuables with SmartWater to help to deter thieves from targeting such valuables.”

Peter Hutchinson, chair of Grindleford Neighbourhood Watch, added: “The Safer Neighbourhood team take every opportunity to promote security and community well-being through their activities.

“By handing out SmartWater kits and signs at our group, we were able to find out more about keeping our property secure. This is something that we can pass onto our neighbours to help to protect our community against crime.”
