Grindleford gets community shop after years of planning

A new village community shop will open in Grindleford on Saturday, June 14.

It’s taken a dedicated team of locals four years to bring the plans for the community shop about and it will be run by a team of volunteers from the village and nearby.

The shop has been offered accommodation in St Helen’s Church vestry to get them started, with plans for a more permanent home being developed.

Matt Heason of Heason Events, who has spearheaded the marketing campaign for the new shop, said: “We are all delighted that our hard work has paid off.

“Grindleford needs a new centre to bring people together and provide basic goods for our families and some of our older residents.

“We are also selling a range of distinctive local food including delicious artisan bread baked only three miles away, fresh local produce and meats, pies and pasties, honey, jam and marmalade.

“We will be doing excellent teas and coffees and a range of home–made cakes every day.

“There will be something for everyone and we welcome walkers, climbers and cyclists if you are passing by.

“We are very grateful to St Helen’s Church for finding us some accommodation to start up in, you can find us in the side vestry, near the bridge.

“The opening day celebrations will kick off at 11 am, and will include free cake, refreshments, some events for children, live music and an onion you can sit in!

“Everyone is very welcome to come down and help celebrate the arrival of the new Grindleford village community shop.”
