GRASSROOTS: Ripley Girl Guides in trip to Canada

The photograph shows the Sushwap River with the Enderby Cliffs in the background, in British Columbia, Canada. Twelve Ripley Girl Guides, accompanied by four Leaders, travelled there in July to an International Camp, ‘SOAR 14’ by the Sushwap river, on the edge of the town of Enderby, where they were made very welcome.

Lisa Simpson, organiser of the expedition, told Soroptimist International of Amber Valley all about their adventures, at the October meeting. The Club had previously given the Guides a donation to help with travel expenses. S.I. has a special link with Guiding UK, and as many of us were Guides when younger the adventures of the camp resonated with us.

The expedition had taken two years to plan and fundraise. The Ripley Guides joined with Girl Guides and Girl Scouts from England, U.S.A., Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Japan.
