A student from Grassmoor has been celebrating after winning a £1,000 scholarship for outstanding academic achievement at the University of Worcester.
Catherine Findley was presented with the scholarship by the university’s vice chancellor and chief executive, Professor David Green, at a special ceremony at the University of Worcester Arena.
Twenty-one-year-old Catherine, a former pupil of Tupton Hall School in Chesterfield, earned her award in recognition of outstanding achievement throughout the 2014/15 academic year.
After receiving the scholarship, Catherine, a third-year creative digital media student, said: “It gives me a great sense of pride knowing that I have completed my academic studies to a high standard.
“This year I aim to complete my third year to the same level and pursue a career in the media industry.”
Professor David Green said: “Congratulations to Catherine on her achievement. Commitment combined with ability and excellent teaching produces outstanding results and we are delighted that Catherine is thriving here at Worcester.
“This year the University of Worcester is delighted to award academic scholarships to a record 156 students. We hope to award even more next year as our students go from strength to strength.
“These scholarships are supported by generous philanthropists, the university’s distinguished honorary fellows, benefactors and donations from successful graduates.
“Winning a scholarship further improves our students’ already excellent job prospects on graduation as well as providing welcome practical support.
“Other scholarships awarded by firms to University of Worcester students include attractive opportunities for salaried work placements, as well as prizes.
“It is only right that students who excel here at the University of Worcester are rewarded and we are working hard with our many partners to create even more opportunities for students to earn scholarships, prizes and placements next year.”
The University of Worcester will be hosting its next open day on Sunday, November 29. For more information visit www.worcester.ac.uk.
