Funding bid for brave boy

Three-year-old Isaac Smith was born with a severe form of cerebral palsy and parents Andy and Rachael want to raise £25k to help with mobility as the brave toddler grows up.

As a result of his condition, Isaac also has learning difficulties, cerebral visual impairment – which has left him virtually blind, and is unable to eat or speak without support.

He also needs a major operation for a dislocated hip which the family hope will be scheduled soon.

Doting Dad Andy, 40, said the push for donations was to fund vital equipment to help Isaac develop and grow as independently as possible with the hope of a bright and happy future.

The father-of-three, of Grandfield Street, said: “Isaac will require ongoing physiotherapy, treatments and operations to aid his progress and development as he grows older.

“Ultimately, the funds will pay for a new ground floor bedroom and wetroom with a lifting hoist and ceiling rack, sensory lighting, specialist clothing and a wheelchair accessible vehicle for family travel.

“Isaac is growing and is very difficult to mobilise, lift and bathe, so this equipment is vital. The input of regular professional physiotherapy will hopefully enable him to reach more milestones.”

Isaac suffered brain damage at birth when his oxygen supply was cut off as a result of a placental abruption. The tot had to be resuscitated but he suffered irreparable damage.

Andy added: “It was heartbreaking watching Isaac suffer, knowing his future was uncertain – both Rachael and myself felt helpless.

“But we are lucky that he has grown into a sweet little boy. When he’s not in pain or discomfort he is extremely placid and smiley. We just want to make his quality of life better – something every child deserves.”

The pair kick-started their charity bid by hosting a family fun-day and golfing event this month. Their next event is a jamboree night on Saturday, November 29, at Basford Hall, Nottingham.
