Bolsover District Council is continuing its drive to get more people active and jogging by helping to stage an England Athletics Leadership in Running Fitness course in 2012.
Kissingate Leisure Centre in Shirebrook will play host to the one day jog leaders’ course, on Sunday, February 19, from 9am-5pm.
The cost to attend is £90. However, anyone who completes the course and then helps at an existing group or would like support to set up their own group will be reimbursed the full £90.
The course focuses on the safe organisation of running activity and how to lead a group of inexperienced runners.
Topics will include how to deliver fun warm-ups as well as providing guidance on how to make sessions enjoyable, varied and safe.
On completion of the course candidates will receive a coach license which also includes insurance covering individuals to lead groups.
Cabinet Member for Social Inclusion Cllr Ann Syrett said: “Jogging is a great way of keeping fit and meeting new people.
“We are the most successful District in Derbyshire when it comes to establishing jogging groups and hopefully having a jog leaders’ course taking place within the District will encourage more people to sign up and start new jog groups in their communities.”
Jogging has proved to be an increasingly popular way of keeping active for Bolsover District residents during 2011 with eight jog groups already in existence.
All sessions are delivered by qualified jog leaders, who have to attend the one day training course to be able to lead groups.
