Jack Boyd and his brother Steven Boyd, of Chesterfield, and Michaela Burton, Callie Abel and Thomas Bradley, from Mansfield, will embark on the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 in July.

They will be remembering Thomas Burton, of Mansfield, who died aged 12 in 2014 from infections after a bone marrow transplant.

Thomas had all the classic symptoms of chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) when he was a baby and was misdiagnosed with Crohn's disease.

He was finally diagnosed with CGD when he was 12 but, by this time, his CGD had taken an immense toll on his body.

The youngster's mother, Michaela Burton - who is one of the five taking part in this summer's charity event - said: "My life will never be the same after losing Tom.

"Nothing can ever make up for the loss of my cherished and only child but, by talking about Tom and telling his story, I can raise awareness of CGD, which Tom was very keen to do."

Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 gives people the chance to cycle 100 miles on closed roads through one of the world's most famous cities and experience the beautiful Surrey countryside.
