Free cycle hire for familes that foster children for Derbyshire

Families fostering for Derbyshire County Council are to receive free bike hire at the council’s cycle hire centre.

The free hire is for one day and is available to foster parents and their families and the children they are fostering at Middleton Top, near Matlock.

Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Councillor Kevin Gillott, said: “Our foster carers do a wonderful job for the children they care for and we are always looking for ways to thank them.”

Deputy Cabinet Member for Jobs, Economy and Transport, Councillor Andy Botham said: “Middleton Top is a fantastic place to enjoy the wonderful Derbyshire countryside and our foster families will be able to enjoy miles of traffic-free trails.”

Middleton Top, on the High Peak Trail, has a variety of bikes to suit riders of most ages including tandems and towing buggies. The High Peak Trail is a 17.5 mile trail from High Peak Junction, near Cromford to Dowlow near Buxton.

* Opportunities to socialise with other foster carers at special events such as the Big Book Bash – a literature festival and awards ceremony for children in care and the families they live with.
