Foul-mouthed woman is fined after abusing police officer

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Tuesday, June 14, how Susanne Pollock, 27, of Princess Street, Brimington, Chesterfield, had been visited by police and social services when she unleashed a tirade of abuse at a police officer which was captured on his body-camera.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said: “The circumstances were that shortly after 10pm, on April 22, a Pc Palethorpe and another officer made a check at the address in Brimington after a social services’ request.

“Pollock smelled of alcohol and was shouting and swearing.

“Pc Palethorpe walked towards Pollock and she was screaming they weren’t welcome and they needed a warrant.”

She was told to co-operate but Pollock swore at Pc Palethorpe, according to Mrs Allsop, and put herself between the officer and the entrance.

Mrs Allsop added Pollock argued and continued swearing claiming she was living in a private property, telling them to get out and that police and social services did not have permission but Pc Palethorpe explained they had the authority to be there.

Pollock admitted to police during an interview that after she had been arrested she had threatened to “nut” someone.

The defendant, who has a previous caution for disorderly behaviour, pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour by causing harassment, alarm or distress.

Defence solicitor Richard Stone said: “She felt quite aggrieved at the situation but accepted that her behaviour went over and beyond what it should have been.”

Mr Stone added that Pollock had already been handcuffed when she threatened to “nut” someone and the incident had happened at the end of a bad day during a time when she had difficulties.

He said: “The defendant had had two small bottles of Mackeson’s stout and it was 10.30pm and officers wanted to come in and she was upset and she had a sit-down protest and she was loud and verbally abusive.”

Magistrates fined Pollock £120 and ordered her to pay a £20 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
