Foul-mouthed drunk is served a court warning

Magistrates have given a warning to a man who was found in Ripley town centre behaving in a drunk and disorderly manner.

Anthony Shaw, 51, of No Fixed Abode, was spotted by police at The Red Lion pub, at Market Place, around 3pm, on Tuesday, April 5, according to Chesterfield magistrates’ court.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said: “Police saw the defendant and officers said he had been refused more alcohol at the pub and was making threats.”

Shaw, who was kept in custody overnight, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

Defence solicitor Alex Chapman said: “There was swearing and he said was trying to break in and find somewhere to sleep.

“He will go from here to a hostel and will enquire with Framework to see what he can do in the future.”

Magistrates sentenced Shaw on Wednesday, April 6, to a 12 month conditional discharge but warned that if he commits any further offence in the next year he will be dealt with for the drunk and disorderly offence as well as any other new matter.

Jobless Shaw, who is on ESA benefits, was also ordered to pay £85 legal costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
