Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard how Brendan Edwards, 28, formerly of the Railway Hotel, on Bakewell Road, Matlock, went berserk and it has been established he was having his contract terminated.

Prosecuting solicitor Angela Hadfield said: “He was very drunk. It was confirmed Edwards was having his employment terminated because of the manner in which he was keeping the pub.

“He climbed on the pool table, pulled his trousers down and picked up a glass and threw it on the floor and it smashed and he threw a second glass. He then picked up a drip tray and as someone tried to get it Edwards dragged it back and it injured the man’s index finger before Edwards threw it at a fridge.”

Edwards pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour after he was arrested by police following the incident on February 9, last year. He also admitted failing to surrender to custody in December, last year.

Defence solicitor Kirsty Sergeant said Edwards had been unable to attend court in December because he had been unwell and soon after there were difficulties because his mother became seriously ill. Ms Sergeant added that Edwards has had to care for his mother and his young sister. Magistrates adjourned the case until February 25 to consider probation reports before sentencing.
