Chesterfield Borough Council has granted conditional planning permission for Obell Developments Ltd to knock down Poolsbrook Hotel near Staveley.

After the demolition, 30 properties – including a combination of flats and homes – will be built on the site at Staveley Road.

Resident Daniel Sellers welcomed the plans.

He said: “I feel the former Poolsbrook Hotel building has no architectural interest and is in a very poor condition.

“Its demolition will remove an ‘eyesore’ and source of anti-social behaviour.”

An Obell Developments Ltd spokesman said: “Currently Poolsbrook Hotel is the only building on this site. The associated land and the building itself are run down and in need of serious repair to successfully promote a positive change to the wider area.

“The scheme responds to the visual impact on this portion of the village by eliminating a largely redundant building with overgrown scrubland and introduces a vibrant rejuvenation solution.

“The scheme delivers a mix of housing styles that reflect the needs of the area.”

Obell Developments Ltd must complete the project within the next three years.
