A young Derbyshire fashion designer is celebrating after winning a prestigious award.

Former Chesterfield College student, Harriet Eccleston, 23, claimed the Young Designer of the Year 2017 at the Midlands Fashion Awards.

The awards celebrate creative fashion talent from across the region.

She said: “It was amazing to be part of such a prestigious event highlighting the breadth of talent outside London.

“I was able to meet such friendly and supportive, talented, emerging designers and models as well as network with the judging panel and other members of the fashion industry.”

Since graduating from Northumbria University with a First Class Honours degree in fashion earlier this summer, Harriet has moved home to the Peak District to set up her own fashion label under her own name, influenced by British heritage, real people and their day to day lives.

“My six-look graduate collection, Entwined, was inspired by the lives of my family,” Harriet said.

“It captures family life and childhood memories.”

She added: “My collection was selected to be shown on the catwalk at London Graduate Fashion Week. It was an incredible and heart-stopping experience to watch my garments on show in a professional environment and in front of established and influential members the fashion industry.” Pictured: Harriet backstage at an event.
