Kyle Hancock, of Bradwell, died in 2011 aged just 18 from an undiagnosed heart condition - just weeks after moving away to university.

One of his best friends, Paige Salt, has devoted herself to raising money in his memory for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

She said: “Kyle was like a brother to me. I could go to him for anything and he would always listen and give me the best advice. It’s so strange without him but he remains with me every single day and makes me the strong outgoing person I am today.”

Over the last five years, Paige has done all sorts of fundraising events.

Now - for the second year running - Paige will host the special ‘Steel City Derby Charity Day’ at Hillsborough Arena in Sheffield on Sunday, July 16.

“Kyle was a mad Sheffield Wednesday fan and I’m a mad Sheffield United fan,” she said.

“So I am getting together players from each team to go head to head.”

Paige now needs to find 80 players - 40 for each club - plus people to help out on the day.

There will also be a raffle and an auction. Last year’s event raised nearly £2,000.

The money raised has already gone towards setting up a new screening process for heart problems which will visit Kyle’s home village in 2018.
