A CULINARY wizard from Bolsover is due to appear on TV after he joined televised auditions for Channel 4’s The Secret Supper Club.
John Jaquest, of Jaquest Food Specialists, at Bolsover Business Park, off Woodhouse Lane, was among those bidding to take on presenter Olly Smith’s challenge of matching food with a specified drink at an unusual location only to be revealed during the show.
Mr Jaquest said: “I was approached by a TV crew to join auditions and thoroughly enjoyed myself.
“There’s some great chefs and food experts in Derbyshire and I’m ever so proud we’ve been able to put the area on the map.”
Award-winning Mr Jaquest, who sells and produces a wide range of cured meats and fish, joined a Sheffield dessert chef and others bidding for the chance to come up with different courses in an unusual spot within the secret location.
During the show, Mr Jaquest produced lip-smacking home made bread, dips, pork scratchings made from treated, cured bacon, caramalised cashew nuts, a copper Palma ham, quail eggs and a smoked Stilton.
The series aims to inspire new dining by combining food, drinks and places.
The outcome of The Secret Supper Club auditions and locations is closely guarded information until the shows are televised, but viewers can see how Mr Jaquest went on during the next episode at 3.50pm, on Saturday.
