Five year old girl grabbed and asked for a kiss

Police are appealing for witnesses after a report that a five year-old-girl was approached by a man and asked to kiss him while she was walking alone at night.

The young girl was on her way to her relative’s house just before 9pm on Saturday, May 30 when she was approached on Wheatley Avenue, Somercotes.

Amber Valley police officers said the girl screamed, and the man put her down and ran off towards Langley Avenue.

The man was described as white, 5ft 10ins tall with a goatee beard.

He was wearing light blue jeans, a black top and a black/dark purple coloured padded coat.

Police in Amber Valley would like to reassure the public after the suspicious incident in Somercotes.

Detective Sergeant Gareth Fuller from Ripley CID said: “We would like anyone in the area that saw anyone acting suspiciously or who may have witnessed the incident to contact police on 101.

“Safer Neighbourhood officers will be increasing patrols in the area and local CID officers are investigating the incident.”
