First big snowfall of 2015 hits Derbyshire

A downfall of snow across north and mid Derbyshire and the Peak District caused disruptions and delays for commuters today, Wednesday, January 21.

Many opted to walk to work as buses were delayed and many of the side roads were hazardous but trains appeared to be running as scheduled into Chesterfield.

Grit workers were making the bridge over the A61 between Chesterfield train station and the Chesterfield town centre safe and the main roads appeared clear.

Temperatures had fallen to below zero overnight as the snow fell and the Met Office has predicted more snow during the day with temperatures of about two degrees centigrade.
