A LEADING first aid charity is urging businesses to take up fire marshal training and to ensure workplaces are fulfilling their safety obligations before winter takes a hold.
St John Ambulance claims UK fire and rescue services have had to be called to nearly 12,000 fires at businesses over a four year period and in the same period they recorded 32 fire-related workplace deaths.
Mel Fox, Midlands St John Ambulance regional training director, said: “Now is an ideal time to ensure your company has its fire and safety covered.”
St John is offering specialist fire marshal training at business premises as well as an online fire marshal calculator to help employers determine the number of fire marshals required and to meet legal fire safety regulations.
Mel Fox added: “By businesses understanding how to prevent fires they are not only making an effort to protect their property but also protecting their employees.”
Risk assessments should be based on the number of marshals required, cover for the first aider’s annual leave and holidays, the type of common injuries in your workplace and how you can address them.
