A NORTH Derbyshire based locomotive hire business has increased its train fleet after securing a £72,000 loan to support the purchase.

Harry Needle Railroad Company has bought three British Rail-built shunting locomotives and will base them at its Barrow Hill Shed depot near Staveley thanks to the loan from Lombard - a financial arm of Nat West.

HNRC which specialises in providing hired locomotives, stock and crew to companies in the rail industry, owns and operates more than 110 locomotives and has one of the country’s largest privately owned train fleets.

Established in 1990, HNRC provides a full locomotive rescue and refurbishment service, designed to return older trains to active service.

HNRC owner Harry Needle said: “We pride ourselves on quickly responding to requests by investing in our fleet to ensure we’ve enough locomotives to meet demands.”
