Firefighters urge residents to keep windows closed as 'toxic black smoke' plumes from Staveley blaze

Staveley residents are being urged to keep their windows closed due to ‘toxic black smoke’ from a fire at a nearby business.

Firefighters from Staveley, Dronfield, Clay Cross and Shirebrook are battling the blaze at JP Graphix on Chesterfield Road this afternoon (Tuesday, August 11).

Derbyshire Police are also at the scene.

A spokesperson for Staveley SNT said: “Can all local residents please keep their windows and doors closed due to the toxic black smoke.

"The road is blocked coming into Staveley from Mastin Moor, however there is one lane open in the opposite direction.

"Diversions are to be put in place by the Highways agency.

“Updates to follow once Chesterfield Road has reopened.

“Thank you to all drivers for being patient with officers and Fire Service during this ongoing incident.”

The cause of the fire or if anyone has been injured is not yet known.
