Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service received a number of hoax calls on Bonfire Night – putting lives at risk.

Group manager Alex Johnson said: “Prank calls can take up valuable time and keep us from genuine emergencies.

“Any hoax call is putting lives at risk and we will not tolerate being sent to non-existent fires because of prank calls.”

The service is clamping down on hoax callers and warned they may face a fine of up to £5,000 or six months in prison.
