Fire cadets get clued up on online safety

Fire cadets in Shirebrook have been learning all about cyber security following a visit from Derbyshire's Digital PCSO.

Digital PCSO Shevani Raichura visited a group of cadets from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service to speak to them about the some of the main issues surrounding cyber security and how they can protect themselves online.

Shevani visited the group of 12-to-16-year-olds at their base in Shirebrook on June 30 to discuss a variety of cyber security topics. This included how to protect their personal details online; creating memorable passwords for websites and safe downloads.

PCSO Raichura said: “As part of our Protect Yourself Online project we are working closely with community groups across Derbyshire so it was fantastic to visit the group of fire cadets at Shirebrook who volunteer their time to help the community.

“The fire cadets were full of energy and really engaging. They asked some really inquisitive questions which opened up a discussion and helped them to explore the world of cyber security further.

“It was fantastic to see the group getting involved with the interactive part of the session.

“I hope that my visit helped to boost their understanding online safety.”
