Never afraid to try something different, The Northern Light Cinema in Wirksworth held its second dog friendly screening redcently, with a screening of the Disney classic, Lady and the Tramp, shown to a full house of two and four legged customers. It may now become a regular feature.

Paul and Esther, the owners of the cinema, are dog owners themselves and so their trusty collie Gwen, often gets to watch films with them. They wanted to let others have the chance to bring their own ‘best friend’ to experience the glamour of the big screen.

Paul said: “Last year we had about six dogs and they all loved it. This year we totally sold out and had over a dozen dogs - and they all behaved themselves so well.”

Instead of popcorn, the dogs were given special biscuits from Wirksworth based Woofskis, makers of handmade, natural hypoallergenic, wheat free dog treats.

Paul added: “Everyone loved the film and we’re already planning next year’s screening. We’re asking for suggestions so would love to hear any ideas. Who know’s, it might become a regular feature.”
