‘Fat Dads’ are fit for the challenge

Six ‘mad fat dads’ from the Dales will be embarking on mammoth 900-mile bike ride in a bid to raise money for five local charities.

The group of dads, who have an average age of over 50, will be starting the Land’s End to John O’Groats ride on September 6.

They have chosen to do the trip in nine days, covering nearly 900 miles and climbing over 42,000 feet – which is 13,000 feet higher than Everest.

The group, who call themselves the ‘Fat Dads’, are hoping to raise £60,000 for their chosen local charities.

Martin Speed, one of the dads taking part, said: “We would like to invite people all along our route to join us on our challenge and ask that they raise £100 for each day they join us.

“We really need the support of local people to donate and help us raise a huge amount of money for these worthwhile charities.”

The Fat Dad’s will be raising money for Derby Breast Cancer Support, Derbyshire Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance, Ashgate Hospice, Neuro Care, and Derbyshire Community Foundation.

All of the costs of the challenge, over £750 each, will be covered by the dads to ensure that all donations go to the chosen charities.
