Family bid to take brave daughter to Disneyland

Disney fanatic Kimberley loves films, make up and chatting with friends. She's an average six-year-old, except for the fact that this brave youngster is battling leukaemia.

Kimberley Newton-Robinson was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) in February, and was forced to spend her sixth birthday in hospital after contracting an infection due to her weakened immune system. The little girl from Marlpool, is fighting on but spends her days dreaming of meeting her favourite Disney characters – something which mum Lauren hopes to make a reality.

Lauren Newton-Robinson, 22, has set a target to raise £1,000 in a bid to take Kimberley to Disneyland Paris to celebrate her seventh birthday, and what will hopefully be the end stages of her treatment. The mum-of-two said: “It’d be a dream come true for Kimberley. She has spent the past few months in hospital with chemotherapy, tests and infections. She’s trying her best to stay positive, but it was awful to spend her sixth birthday in hospital.”

Kimberley had been an active child and gave her mum no cause for concern, until Lauren spotted a lump on the youngster’s neck earlier this year.

She said: “She was still bouncing around and being her usual chirpy self, but I spotted this lump on her neck and took her to get it checked out. I was told many times it was nothing to worry about but something didn’t seem right – alarm bells started ringing.” Kimberley is now undergoing chemotherapy at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

Lauren added: “She can’t go to school at the moment and knows she is poorly, but doesn’t understand the extent of the condition. She is missing out on the things she used to love. Hopefully this will give her something to look forward to. We don’t want to beg, but any help would be appreciated – we want to make her dreams come true.”
