An extra train service will run through Derbyshire and Leicestershire from next week after passenger numbers rocketed by 144 per cent.

The extra evening service will depart Sheffield at 5.38pm and call at Chesterfield and Belper in Derbyshire, before heading on to London St Pancras via Derby, Loughborough and Leicester.

The East Midlands Trains service will operate on weekdays, starting from Monday.

It comes after a 144 per cent surge in passenger numbers since 2007/08, and a nine per cent increase in the last year alone.
